When you’re heading to clinicals in the early hours wondering why you ever decided to do this and being a server sounds so much better.. sleeping in until 10am and then working until 1m, you should probably be ready or as ready as you can be. So clean those nasties out of your eyes and brush your teeth so you can be ready for clinicals. Also please don’t bring a big bag like this in the picture above, everything should honestly fit in your pockets.
You should ALWAYS have the following that your provide:
- Stethescope
- A couple of black in pens
- A black sharpie
- A note book or something to write on and in
- Penlight
- Watch (you will never use it)
Why do you need these?
Well during your head to toe assessment you will be asked to assessed heart and lungs as well as GI sounds so a Stethoscope is a must have. Some nursing programs provide them in that kit you have to buy at the beginning of the program that you only open once and then give it to your kids, but those kind of suck. Black pens for notes. Sharpie is important when you have to update your G-Tube feedings, or mark on your tubing labels. A notebook is self-explanatory, and a penlight for assessing PERRLA and mouth. I included a list below that takes you directly to what you need or what you may want to buy your loved one before a clinical day.
Must haves to bring and to remember to ask in the group chat before you go to bed the night before include….
- SBAR papers for your patients you will be assigned
- Medication List
- Med Book
- Anything else your teacher said to bring 😉
